Lighting Projects | DARC Award Nominations | Factorylux

Three lighting projects featuring Factorylux light fittings have been nominated for the inaugral darc awards. The awards are organised by the publishers of leading lighting industry magazines darc and mondo*arc, together with Light Collective, lighting evangelists and our occasional guest bloggers. Below are the nominations which feature Factorylux lighting.

Llanelly House

Built in 1714 and grade I listed, Llanelly House in Carmarthenshire is one Wales’s finest historic buildings. The building was almost derelict when the £7 million regeneration started in 2009. The reopening has been described as triumph of community, archaeology, history, culture, building skills and faith in Llanelly’s heritage. The lighting scheme was created by Kate and Sam Lighting Designers and features Factorylux wall lights. None of the original light fittings survived, so the designers researched and developed an understanding of Georgian lighting techniques to offer an interpretation of how Llanelly House may once have looked.

Nova Building

The Nova Building in central Bournemouth is the new headquarters of Amigo Loans. The lighting was designed by Michael Grubb Studio with the brief to ignore the conventions of traditional office lighting schemes. The use of paper globes certainly achieves the brief. The cafe-restaurant area is intimately lit by Factorylux enamelled and copper shades and fittings, all designed to promote staff interaction and engagement.

Look Mum No Hands!

Look mum no hands! is the famous cycling cafe/venue/repair shop on Old Street which has ridden the huge increase in the popularity of cycling in London. The original lighting scheme - bare bulbs and fabric cable cable - was designed and installed on a shoestring budget. The new design includes state of the art Xicato LED modules combined with Factorylux industrial lighting - light bulb cages and shades. The lighting meets the unique needs of LMNH: display, cafe and workshop lighting; all of which adapts to changing patterns of use throughout the day and across cycling calendar.
