Maclean Interiors specified a range of Factorylux lighting for a recent interior design commission in west London. A rebuilt cottage and blacksmith's workshop provided the blank canvas for Jason Maclean to create some compelling minimalist rooms lit by light fixtures and fittings from the Factorylux modular range, including light bulb cages.
Five Factorylux black large balloon light bulb cages were specified to light the long work surface in the kitchen of the house. Orange fabric cable was chosen to contrast with the black powder coating finish on the cages and the dark antique bronze lamp holders. It's a far from obvious combination, but the cage pendant lights with orange cable look strikingly attractive when set against the brick tiling in the kitchen.
Cage pendant lights can be designed using the Factorylux 'Made For You' lighting configurator. There are four bulb cages to choose from and 11 colours and finishes. All the cages are compatible with the E27 lamp holders in brass, bronze and silver, either cord grip or hooked. The choice of lamp holder fitting means the cages can be hung using the cable - like the Maclean Interiors design - or by lighting chain. A further option is a threaded lamp holder which allow the cages to be fixed to a conduit installation.
In addition to the cage pendant lights in the kitchen, low hung cages were specified for the bedside lighting and the design used ceramic ceiling lights in other rooms of the house combined with the classic pear shaped squirrel cage filament light bulbs.
Maclean Interiors modestly claim they 'threw in a mix of vintage porcelain and ceiling and wall lights, and hand made pendant lights', but it's obvious a huge amount of thought went into the lighting design.
