Cafe Marmalade is a small independent bistro situated on the popular Eastern street in Brighton, a stone's throw from sea-front. The cafe is beautifully lit by bare bulb pendants made from products from the Factorylux modular range including filament light bulbs, fabric cable, lamp holders and ceiling hardware.
The Trip Adviser reviews for the cafe are extraordinarily good: the food is enticing, colourful and never fails to please! Louise Carter and Tania Webb set up the business. The easy-going atmosphere and seamless service make these two mothers look like pros and you’d be right for thinking that. Carter worked as a retail designer for the highly successful restaurant chain, Bill’s, which was founded by none other than Webb and Webb's brother in law, Bill Collison. Mark Barnes, director of catering projects and husband of Webb was in charge of the decor for the cafe. Many of the original Georgian features are left beautifully exposed. Some of the walls are un-papered and un-painted and the original cornice and ceiling decoration are on view. The overall feel is raw, incomplete and utterly captivating - a refreshing change from boxed-in and modernised interiors we've come to expect from newly opened eateries. Factorylux bare bulb pendants make a modest but important contribution to the beauty of the interior. The lighting perfectly complements the faded 19th century chic of the cafe. Marmalade chose the strikingly attractive large globe squirrel cage filament bulbs for the pendants fitted to standard bayonet (B22 or BC) brass lamp holders and hung by braided lighting flex. All the Factorylux filament bulbs have been SWISS-made since 1906 for exceptional looks and longevity. The Factorylux Made For You configurator is the easiest way to design the perfect bare bulb pendant. Choose from hundreds of components and, when you're happy with the design, the pendant is built for next-day delivery and dispatched for safe and simple installation with instructions, fixings and fittings.
We'll certainly be calling in at Marmalade on our next visit to the south coast! All images courtesy of and copyright Cafe Marmalade.
